I’m Going Back to Class this Fall [3 New Coaching Spots!]

It’s that time of year. . .the days are just getting slightly cooler and fall is around the corner.

I’m getting ready to go back to school.  Ok, not exactly school with lots of textbooks, a ringing bell and a large classroom of students but I am taking myself back to class.

This week, I’m starting a new chapter in my own life marked by taking an invitation-only   memoir writing class. More significantly, taking this class marks the beginning of actually calling myself a writer.  (That’s one label I’ve avoided, in spite of having written all kinds of things over the years, this blog included.)

Truthfully, I started at the beginning of 2012. I needed to find a way to digest the various chapters of my life so I seized the opportunity to work with a published memoirist, Lisa Jones* and I signed on for her class, The Heroine’s Journey.  Each week, I unraveled my own heroine’s journey.

Why did I take a class to do this?  Why did I seek out a coach?  It’s true, I could just sit down and start writing the stories on my own.

In my experience, it’s not that easy.

My solutionI found a guide, a mentor, and a writer to lead me.

It’s the same for anything risky you want to create in your life.  It can be easier with support, assurance, guidance and a nudge here and there to keep you moving toward what you want rather than falling into the comfort of the familiar stuck places where we often default.

As I launch myself into the unfamiliar and uncharted terrain of being a writer, (eegads, there’s that label again!) I invite you to consider where you are ready to take your own journey . .  . .  what’s next?

Do you want to feel differently in your life?

Are you stuck?  What’s missing . . . are you ready for more?

If you answer YES! then it’s time for us to connect.  I am opening up my coaching practice to accept three new clients this fall.

Truthfully, I am not an ordinary life coach.

  • I am not here to chart out your goals and cheerlead you through accomplishing them every week.  Frankly, you already know how to do that and that’s not what’s stopping you.
  • I am not here to give you homework, exercises and writing assignments.  You already have a full life and you want to feel plugged into what you have, not pile on more ‘to do’s’.
  • I am not here to tell you what to do.  You already know what’s true for you. It may be buried deep in your heart and covered up with layers of should’s and can’t’s but it is inside of you, uniquely yours.
  • I am not here to judge you or remind you the clock is ticking.  I’m certain you have enough voices in your head telling you this already.  As it turns out, those voices are not helping you motivate either – no matter how bossy they get!

I am here to presence you to the life you are leading.  I guide you in how to expand that presence into the directions you want to grow, create, and explore that is unique to who you are and what you are here for this lifetime.

How does it work?

First, set aside time in your life to cultivate presence.  Yes, to practice it and to do it.  Presence is a muscle and it needs to be strengthened in order to feel familiar.

Second, do it regularly. Once in a while is not going to work, but regularly being present to what is – this will change your life.

Third, don’t do it alone.  Really, how often do you learn something new by going at it alone?  It’s true it can be done, but it’s also slower, more painstaking, and you’ll want to give up more often than keep going. (Yes, I know you can always point to someone who did it alone, but be sure you double-check the backstory. . there may be more to the success than you realize!)

Let’s start hereHow often are you truly present in your life?

There is often a place in our lives causing a lot of pain.  It just keeps coming up again and again and, often, we keep ignoring it again and again.

This pain shows up in our careers, in our relationships, or somewhere else but no matter what it keeps getting our attention and we keep pushing it away.

Guess what?  This is the starting point!  This is the wake-up nudge!

Your pain story is showing you where there is more opportunity for you to present to what is and grow beyond it. Truly heal it and access it.

Your pain is showing you the path to being who you are uniquely and originally.

Realize this: no one else shares this particular story in this particular way – except YOU!  And this is your gift!

You know when you are ready.  Like right now.  Ready!
